Located in the old protected center of Marche-en-Famenne, the Dupont and Porte Basse streets comprise buildings of ancient character registered in the inventory of the Monumental Heritage.
La Porte Basse was one of the historical doors of the town. Trades are present in the two streets and give them a touch of liveliness. The project of refitting was conceived in order to develop the built heritage of those streets. The diagram of the traffic in that neighbourhood was modified, the setting in one-way of the two streets allowed to widen the space dedicated to the pedestrians. So that the trades remain accessible to the motorists, parking spaces were arranged. Floor coverings were selected to integrate the project to the quality of the ancient buidings and to mark the functions of pedestrian and car traffics and of parking. The site of La Porte Basse was symbolized by columns in natural stone. Some tall trees were planted.
